Great concept and good execution! He seems to forget that he can fly when confronted with a puppy, which may be a good place to start with a follow-up comic. There are a couple of things in the technique I think could be improved.
First I think it would be nice to see the tree. You don't necessarily need the whole tree or for that matter a complete background, but the white-space between the puppy and the dragon feels a little too empty. A full background with hills and a sky would be nice, but not necessary. If not the full background, just show the roots of the trees with a little bit of grass.
I like the expression on the dragon's face and the shading is pretty good. The large shadow from the dragon that surrounds the puppy is slightly "jagged". I wish I knew what program you're using to edit this -- in Photoshop, I would recommend applying a very slight blur to the big shadow. A gaussian blur of only a couple pixels would be plenty to smooth it out. In MS Paint this is much more difficult because you have to apply the blur colors manually and you don't have the layers or opacity that would help you do that in Photoshop.
Last thing, I think you could get away with shortening the gap between the puppy and the dragon a little. You don't want to bring the dragon all the way down obviously, but you could have him in a very short / small tree and I think that would be fine. Or alternatively you could show him at the top of an evergreen tree (for that Christmas tree shape) and have it be a big tree that's bent over like a bow by the dragon's weight. The tree bends over until the point of the tree at the top is past horizontal and the dragon is almost back down to the ground where the puppy is waiting for him to fall off. (This is one of the tropes of some old TV cartoons.)

Great Job!
